Crump PlaceCrump Place - 1836 - Log House/ 1840 Greek Revival
Single-story flanking-gable of heavy-timber frame construction; additions to east and west ends were later attached giving the log home a Greek Revival look.  The front view features a five-bay inset gallery with prominent entrance portico, surmounted by balustrade of a much later vintage.  The house was built in 1837 by Sam McCorkle, one of Holly Springs' founders; a rear (south) "L" and adjoining gallery was added shortly thereafter.  During the Civil War, the home was used for officers' quarters and was known better as the boyhood home of Edward H. Crump "Boss Crump", much-noted mayor of Memphis, Congressman from Tennessee and political boss for many years. The original lattices outhouse was bought and returned to the property.
